The title “Word of God” is the most appropriate of all the terms used in reference to the Bible. The term “Bible” literally speaks of books, “Scripture” literally speaks of writings, the “Word of God” literally speaks of divine utterance. David said, “The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and His Word was in my tongue."”(2 Samuel 23:2). The book of Joshua begins with the words, “The Lord spake unto Joshua saying…” The term “thus saith the Lord” occurs about 100 times in the book of Jeremiah and the phrase “saith the Lord” is expressed 25 times in the book of Malachi.God’s primary way of speaking to us today is through His Word. The Bible is God Himself speaking through the medium of the printed pages to mankind. Let us therefore read the Word of God to find out what God is saying; believe it and act upon it by applying its sacred principles in our daily lives to fulfill God’s purposes. Jesus said, “The Words I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life.” The Bible can bestow life because the Word of God is life and lives forever.
